Not So Mellow Yellow

Yellow was yesterday's color - and I took all of these...today! Except for the one of my son running away from my silly string sneak attack! That was last night. : )

The cool thing is that the delivery van, spacey art, and train were all within two blocks of each other! I got so lucky all at once, but I kept seeing yellow all over town for the rest of the day. This challenge is great that way! Next up...green!

All the Pretty Colors

So I just found out about this summer photography challenge and I think I'll give it a try. I should have taken a picture of something pink yesterday, but since I didn't know that until today, I'll post some of my favorite pink pictures I've taken recently (yep, that's called cheating). Then I'll get on track with a yellow pic in a bit!

The Sun Arrives, Fashionably Late

Aaaaahhh, the sun came out! Just as Portland was giving up hope, looking for houses in Southern California, and generally being all grumpy all over the place, *surprise* the sun did a sneaky! She finally decided to let the Northwest into her virtual family photo - there we are up at the left with Seattle giving us the bunny ears, grins on all our faces! I know that by now, this late in June, the sun being out should just be an afterthought. But no, this was front and center news for like, what? The last 8 months weeks! We felt like groundhogs, perpetually hoping to see our shadows. But now, no more complaining! Unless the sun shouts, "Tricked ya!" like my little boy would. We'll see. For now we're cautiously optimistic, and putting on the sunscreen.

Roller Derby! Yeah!

This has been a very fun, very busy week - the preschool graduation, the visiting mom-in-law, a great trip to the berry farm, the talent show, and then the last day of first grade for my sweet little girl. But wow, last night! After asking people all week to come with me to the Rose City Rollers season championship, I finally got an "ok, let's do it" from my friend Ian! The rest of my family left on Thursday for a quick camping/climbing trip in California, and I have been blessed with a weekend all to myself. This is such a gift - and the one thing I really wanted to do with my time off was get myself to this roller derby! It was amazing!

I've never been to the roller derby before, and neither had Ian, but after watching the first bout, we started to catch on to the rules. This is fantastic stuff, I tell you. We realized at the end of the big match that the derby girls come in all shapes and sizes - and ages!

One of the highest scorers of the night (known as a jammer) was this beauty: Minstral Psycho. The names were killing me. I was glad I was close enough to hear her say, "Old chicks kick a**!" Because trust me, she did! She's holding the super cool, sparkly belt buckle all the winning ladies received as a prize.

Congratulations to the winning team - the High Rollers - and to all the ladies that made this an unforgettable spectacle! And thanks again to Ian, who didn't want me going alone.

Fresh Start

So, this is my first post! Lately I've been feeling the need to create - that means anything from handsewing to scrapbooking to photography. And now, look at me - I'm blogging! I'm inspired by simple things, and have recently realized that I want to appreciate my lucky life, one day at a time. Thanks for visiting!
